With Pixar only having one film a year and only one in the past three being a hit.(Monsters University) It seems we may have a new Pixar like studio on the horizon. Disney and Dreamworks now with more hits under their belt, have now built on their empire of films. Mocked at first for making two films a year Dreamworks was thought to be rushing on making their films. Their films were considered under par. But Dreamworks may get the last laugh. With two films every year at least one of them is Oscar nominated. Even if they are not hits they will always receive a huge box office gross. Steadily they are starting to do three films a year. Disney is also treading down the same path with two films a year. In the past 3 years, 6 films for Dreamworks have come out , well technically 5 since Turbo is out later this month, and each film has a fresh rating on RT. Also they have all pulled in over 500 million worldwide except for Rise of the Guardians, because of Disney's Wreck it Ralph which pulled in a good 300 million. With both critics and audiences liking these films no wonder they've decided to upgrade their amount of films per year. The plan for Dreamworks is to release three films in the three most popular quarters of the year, Fall/ holiday season, Summer, and Spring or March, June, November/December. The company currently has 28 films known to be in development. Only ten of them have a release. As for Disney they are in the same situation except are now beginning to upgrade the amount of films both they and Pixar will be making. According to the schedule they showed that when Disney makes two films that Pixar will make one,and when Pixar makes two then Disney will make none, that switches every other year. Disney's last films have also been considered great classics to buy.(Wreck it Ralph, Winnie the Pooh, and Tangled) However with Pixar's films doing okay, who will take it's place on the animation studio pyramid. Here's the ranking system I used to rank the studios:
# of films in past decade Best Box office in past decade Best rating in past decade
1.(tie)Disney/ Dreamworks 9/ 20 Tangled 590 million/Madagascar 3,742 million, Tangled 90%/Puss in Boots, 84%
2. Pixar 10 Toy Story 3, 1 billion Toy Story 3 99%
3. Illumination Entertainment 4 Despicable Me, 543 million Despicable Me,81%
4. Blue Sky 7 Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs 886 million Horton Hears a who 79%
5. Sony Pictures Animation 7 The Smurfs 563 million Arthur Christmas 91%
